Undertaken in conjunction with the the Mobility RERC

Project Directors: Frances Harris, PhD; Jon Sanford, M.Arch

An image of a wheelchair. This project is being conducted in conjunction with CATEA's Mobility RERC, and is also described on their site. It includes two sub-studies to investigate the relationship between wheelchair type and environmental modifications as they impact activity performance and participation in three settings: home, workplace, and community. Specifically, Substudy 1 (Home) will assess the interactive effects of wheelchair type and home modifications on: 1) performance of home activities and 2) participation at home, work and the community. Substudy 2 (Work) will assess the interactive effects of wheelchair type and workplace accommodations on: 1) performance of work activities and 2) participation at home, work and the community. The project will result in a more systematic understanding of the interaction between wheeled mobility device and environmental facilitators which will inform clinician, policy and implementation decisions about the effectiveness of different devices given a particular setting.
