Windows Media On-Demand Producer (WMODP)
To caption video, some kind of video editing software is needed. There are several video editing software packages with captioning capabilities that offer varying
benefits and drawbacks in their features, requirements, and installation. For those who are partial to working
with Windows or have budgetary constraints, the video editing software, Windows Media On-Demand Producer (WMODP), may be the solution.
Note: The
WMODP software only works with the Windows operating system,
and the video formats of .AVI (Audio Video Interlaced) or .WAV files.
Features
The Windows Media On-Demand Producer (WMODP) software, including
the player and the server, come "free" with the Windows operating system. Features
of the WMODP software include:
- Closed-captioning capabilities that provide for playing the video and synchronizing the captioning by selecting a key
(a time-saver over individually typing in timestamps).
- "Packaging" that allows for publishing work by embedding the video into a webpage.
- Insertion of markers for each section or 'scene' of video that enable a user of the video to skip forward or backwards.
- Synchronization of other media, such as images and webpages, through the use of JavaScript.
Requirements
Before starting to use Windows Media On-Demand Producer (WMODP) software, you will need:
- Windows operating system (Windows 98 or more recent)
- Digitized video file with audio in .AVI or.WAV format;
- Version 6.2 or later of the Windows Media Player;
- Windows Media On-Demand Producer software; and
- Recent version of the Java Virtual Machine.
You should also have:

publishing the video can occur with only a few minor changes.
