Files You Need for Module 4

Version Information

Two software programs that are commonly used in captioning video will be referenced in Module 4:

Windows Media On-Demand Producer (WMODP)

WMODP works only with a Windows Operating System more recent than Windows 3.1.

Media Access Generator (MAGpie), Version 2.01

MAGpie works across multiple operating systems because it is written in a programming language called Java. However, the operating system you are using must have a recently installed JAVA Runtime Environment (JRE).
 

Windows Lab Files

The compressed file below contains all of the materials required for a Windows user to complete the interactive labs found within Module 4.

To download the Windows files:

  1. Save the Windows Zip File.
  2. When prompted, select "Save As" and save the file to your desktop.
    Note: When the file is opened, these materials will automatically extract into a folder called "mod4lab" on your hard drive.

MacIntosh Lab Files

The compressed file below contains all of the materials required for a MacIntosh user to complete the interactive labs found within Module 4.

To download the MacIntosh files:

  1. Save the MacIntosh Stuffit File.
  2. The file will save to your desktop.
    Note: After being downloaded, these materials will automatically extract into a folder called "mod4lab" on your hard drive.

Labs

There are two hands-on labs in this module; these are representative of each software with captioning capabilities that is discussed in this module: Windows Media On-Demand Producer and MAGpie. Each lab uses a sample 1-minute video about "Ubiquitous Computing" to produce a captioned version. By the end of each lab, you should be familiar with how to:

Note: All techniques presented in the labs can apply to any video, regardless of the content. It is suggested that you read the several pages preceding each lab; these pages will familiarize you with the features, requirements, installation, interface, and captioning capabilities of each software package as well as provide details that are not necessarily discussed in the lab.
