Overview

For several years now, Microsoft Word has been the predominant application used to generate documents such as course syllabi, assignments, notes and review materials. With the technology available to students today, it is important and desirable to make these materials available on the Internet, not only for online classes, but as supplements for traditional "face-to-face" classes as well.

Word 2000 and Word XP have the capability to "Save as Web Page." However, the webpages that Word generates contain extraneous code which can increase download time and is not always accessible to students using assistive technologies. In Module 6, you will look at these issues as well as methods required to make Word documents more accessible to everyone.
