Getting started
When you get to the point of testing, you are assuming:
- The document you are about to test is a tagged document, which contains
meta information about structure.
- Images have text equivalents.
You can use the Accessibility Checker
to examine your work, and point out potential accessibility issues.
To run the Accessibility Checker on a PDF file:
- Open Lab4.pdf. Select 'Advanced' from the menu. Then choose 'Accessibility', then
'Full Check...' This opens the 'Accessibility Checker' dialog box (see
Image 33).
- Select 'Create Accessibility Report'.
- Select the 'Create Comments in Document' checkbox if you want to see the accessibility issues
identified with comments in the document so that the problems appear in context.
- Specify the pages you want included in the accessibility check.
- Select any of the 'Checking Options' you want to check.
- Click 'Start Checking'.
- When the Accessibility Checker is run, any inaccessible
element is found, a dialog box appears to highlight the object in question (see Image
34).
Fixing the Problem
Read the generated report
Acrobat 9.0 will automatically generate an accessibility report for you that tells you how to go about fixing the inaccessible elements in your PDF file.
To select the object in questionand add alternative text:
- In the Tags panel, select the element containing the image.
- Choose Options, Properties, then click on the Tag tab. This brings up the Tags window (see Image
35)
- Then fill in the Alternate Text field.
- You can now add alternative text the same
way you did in Lab: Alternative
Text.
To remove the comments that were inserted:
- Make sure the hand tool is selected
- Right click on the comment.
- Choose 'delete comment'.
Note: It is recommended that you remove the comments, then run the accessibility
checker again to make certain nothing was missed.
